Pemmican is an EXCELLENT food for travel and to store for future use.
The high caloric content of this protein and fat-rich food provides long lasting energy. It's compact size makes it super convenient. Manzanita flour adds good flavor and additional nutrients. The dry kelp is loaded with vitamins and minerals including salt. This version of pemmican is simply my favorite food.

Primitive Trick to Get Drinking Water in the Desert
Просмотров 27 тыс.День назад
Don't do what I do unless you are in a real survival situation or you are prepared to deal with potential consequences. I have consumed raw wild water in many places and only one time did I ever get a very mild case of diarrhea and that happened in a river that passed through several towns in Mexico. I have consumed water from springs and streams in deserts, mountains and coasts many times with...
R.I.P. my first Adobe Hut is in Ruins
Просмотров 52 тыс.14 дней назад
In 2018 I finished building the first hut. I used it as a shelter for practicing primitive skills for more than three years. It endured a few more years after and proved to me the resilience of a primitive structure but then something happened. My social media links: Instagram @chadzuberofficial Facebook @ChadZAdventure
How to Get Lifesaving Water from an Agave Cactus
Просмотров 1,2 млнМесяц назад
In the desert water is often the number one survival priority. If there is no river or spring then what can you do to get water? Cactuses retain large amounts of water inside of them but that water is often mixed with toxic compounds that can cause more harm than good if you consume them. But there is a way to get safe drinking water from certain species of cactus. In this video I'll show you h...
Solar Eclipse Friction Fire with Yucca Transport (4.08.2024)

Solar Eclipse is an excellent time to connect with nature during such an amazing natural phenomenon. Today, as the eclipse was maximizing, I produced an ember by friction fire using the hand drill method with a mule fat spindle on parry nolina stalk. A piece of a dry yucca leaf was used to catch the ember. Pounded palm fiber was used as the tinder bundle. After blowing the ember into flames I u...

Firing the Biggest Clay Pot I ever made
Просмотров 18 тыс.Месяц назад
This adobe brick kiln works well to fire pottery. I recently made this large pot from raw earth sourced in the pit next to my hut. This pot will be used to collect and store water. The process for firing this pottery is simple. 1) I place some wood and kindling in the kiln. 2) Then I light it with hot coals collected from the fireplace in my hut. 3) I allow all the wood to burn down. 4) Then I ...
Rock Dam and "Ollas" to Grow Garden in Desert (episode 3.3)
Просмотров 94 тыс.Месяц назад
The key to successful crops in the desert is water retention in the soil. I'm planning to grow corn, squash, and beans in this arid land. My hut and garden area are on a slope. Strategically building a small dam to collect water as it flows down the slope will help to collect more water in the garden area. Other strategies will also be employed such as the use of biochar, compost, and heavy mul...
Primitive Pottery: Kiln Fired Cooking Pot
Просмотров 22 тыс.Месяц назад
This adobe brick kiln works well to fire pottery. I recently made this large cooking pot from clay sourced in the pit next to my hut. I also made a flat cooking plate known in Mexico as a 'comal'. The process for firing this pottery is simple. 1) I place some wood and kindling in the kiln. 2) Then I light it with hot coals collected from the fireplace in my hut. 3) I allow all the wood to burn ...
How to NOT make Quicklime - What am I doing wrong? (episode 3.2)
Просмотров 45 тыс.2 месяца назад
Clam shells can be turned into quicklime (calcium oxide) by burning them at 800 degrees Celsius. Quicklime has many industrial applications which interest me, especially for making cement mortar, to nixtamalize corn, and as a soil amendment. However, as I found out today, making quicklime isn't as easy as online tutorials make it seem. My social media links: Instagram @chadzuberofficial Faceboo...

Saponins are poisonous to fish too, they are used by indigenous people to catch fish in pools. They would just float to the surface after exposure.
